CA iGaming Market size
The size of a market is an essential measure of its strength and potential in terms of player volume and value. Around the world, 350 million people have compulsive gambling behaviors. Around 220 thousand of them live in Canada, with 1 million of them engaging in high-risk gaming.
Canada’s population is expected to reach 38 million by 2021. They have internet connectivity in 94% of cases. Approximately 75% of Canadians engage in some sort of gaming. With over 20 million Canadians actively gaming, the country has completely accepted gambling. In terms of internet gambling, Canada is ranked eighth in the globe.
Over the last five years, per capita disposable income has risen; nevertheless, growing competition from other kinds of entertainment, such as interactive at-home entertainment like video and smartphone games, has stifled industry earnings. Gambling companies have also been harmed by competition from across the border, as several US states have allowed the construction of new casinos to help bolster their ailing budgets.
Note:GDP per capita is one of the best measures of a country’s wealth as it provides an understanding of how each country’s citizens live on average.

Lotteries are by far the most popular gambling activity in Canada, with half of Canadians having played a lottery in the past year. Sports tickets are at the bottom of the popularity contest, Right behind lotteries in popularity are scratch tickets and Raffles, followed closely by casinos (both physical and online).
Land-based casinos are becoming less popular, with all of Canada’s super casinos reporting a drop in revenue even before the lockdowns of 2020. In an interesting turn of events, the provincial government decided to launch their own online casinos in an attempt to fill the revenue gap. This is a move that was mirrored by almost all of the provinces.

Canada iGaming Problematic gambling
Around the world, 350 million people have compulsive gambling behaviors. Around 220,000 of these people live in Canada, with 1,000,000 of them having hazardous gambling behaviors that are likely to deteriorate in the near future.
- The most serious gambling addicts in Canada often lose more than $500,000 a year! ● Around 75% of all Canadians have participated in gambling. According to gambling statistics for Canada from 2018
- Online gambling addiction isn’t much different from the “traditional” form. In fact, it will probably become the most prevalent form of a gambling problem, as younger generations will be more likely to indulge in this form of self-destructive behavior
- Most serious gamblers are males
- The situation here is similar to alcoholism and most other substance abuse disorders. ● In most cultures, men are “driven” towards substance abuse (and gambling) as a way to cope with psychological issues.
- According to gambling statistics for Canada from 2019, 65% of Canadians occasionally play the lottery. Additionally, 36% prefer lucky scratchies, with 22% mentioning casinos as their favorite gambling activity. Of those, around a half play slot machines
- Turns out that a large portion of those doing the losing, up to half in some areas, are people with pathological gambling problems. This comes as little surprise to researchers studying gambling, who suggest that provinces are reluctant to make aggressive policies to reduce problem gambling because it would cut into their revenues.
- The Public Opinion on Gambling survey measured the extent of participation in both regulated gambling and unregulated gambling. 72% of respondents participated in some form of gambling behavior in the last 12 months.
